High Performance Flipper Knife

Kevin Smock is an award-winning industrial designer who is turning heads with his visionary handcrafted custom knives. Based on his SK23 custom folder, the Spyderco Smock translates his innovative style into a premium-quality production folder. The hollow-ground blade of this knife is precision machined from CPM S30V stainless steel and includes both a Round Hole and an elegantly understated flipper opener. The flipper action is supported by a pair of special ball-bearing pivot washers and a dedicated secondary detent mechanism separate from the knife's lock. It is paired with a skeletonized handle featuring full stainless steel liners, textured carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scales, lightweight, open-backed construction, and a reversible, tip-up pocket clip for ambidextrous carry.

The Smock’s most unique feature, however, is the button release on its high-strength Compression Lock mechanism, which allows the knife to be safely and easily closed without placing your fingers near the blade’s edge. Slim, innovative and distinctly different, the Smock truly reflects Kevin Smock's unique approach to knifemaking.

The Smock has very quickly become my favorite knife. It's not just the fit and finish, but the shape of the blade and quality of the hollow grind; the sound and feel of the blade running on the bearings and the satisfying "click" as it opens and closes. I've even grown to love the scales, which at first I did NOT like. I still might do as planned and get some custom micarta scales from Sharp Dressed Knives, but I might just wait a while and enjoy these. At first, I thought the flipper was a bit tough to trigger to deploy the blade, then I figured out that if you lay your entire part of the tip of your finger up to the first joint on the flipper and then just slide it down along the contour of the scales, it flips right open with a solid click. I can't say enough about the blade. It comes already scary sharp and I absolutely love the hollow grind and I've even come to accept the choil that isn't really a choil, but a recess for the blade to fit around the button lock mechanism. It all just comes together in this sleek package that MAKES you want to fidget with it. And the fidgeting with this knife is addictive. If I could change only one thing about it, it would be that the Spydie hole could somehow be a bit bigger. I can Spydie-flick it open, but it takes a bit of learning how to catch that small hole on your finger. I liked the action right out of the box, but I did end up disassembling it and lubing everything up right and reassembling without the 2nd detent. I saved it in case I ever want to put it back, but I'm loving the action even more with that secondary detent removed. And the way this slim little knife fits in the pocket without even a flipper to snag your hand on is awesome. If you're on the edge of deciding wether or not to pull the trigger on a Smock, you can't go wrong with this knife. Do it!!! If you haven't considered it as one you might like, you are missing out! I love my Para 3 and Manix, but they are spending more time at home lately. The Smock is dominating pocket time.

This is by far the best and most favored knife I've ever owned.
It's very easy to open and the straight edge of the blade makes it super easy to sharpen.
On a side note,it's a fidgety flipper and very hard to put down.
    Well done, Kevin Smock.

The Spyderco Smock is an amazing knife. The action is super smooth and extremely responsive with a dual detent, it comes sharper than any knife I have gotten out of the box, it has numerous deployment methods (of which all work great), and the ergonomics are perfect with a few different positions you can hold the knife with depending on what you are trying to do and its lighter than it looks which was a nice surprise. It got here before it said it would from "Ye ole cutlery and gift shop" whom were also great. I called before hand and the gentleman who I spoke with was very nice and they shipped it within hours of my order, great customer service; if you have a chance to purchase through them then don't hesitate. If you have a chance to pick up the Spyderco Smock, I wouldn't hesitate on that either because this knife is hard to find.

Absolutely love my Smock, it's my EDC knife. As a lefty it has everything I wanted. A good flipper option, a good middle finger flick option and a compression/button lock. As a lefty I generally hate thumb studs and any knife with a frame/liner lock. This knife is just perfect for me. Fidget friendly as hell (I catch myself unintentionally flipping it open and closed over and over while watching videos/movies). It was hair shaving sharp right out of the box. The only small complaint, IF I had to give one, was the detent was too tight until I removed the 2nd detent ball. I plan on fully customizing it with some MetonBoss oil slick frag Zirconium scales, zircuti clip, zircuti backspacer and button and changing the body/pivot screws to blue. After that I'd like to find an M390 Smock, an M4 Smock and a 20cv Smock and fully dress out all 4 differently. IF you've been wanting one, I suggest getting one while you can.
