- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2024Color: Plain Edge TrainerVerified PurchaseThis SOCP training blade has the same weight and opening mechanism as the knife. The quality of materials and grip match the knife identically minus the blade steel. I personally don’t notice the difference with the 440c steel for the trainer.
It’s a good idea to train with the tool you carry. So you can practice getting it out and open for drills and light impact training. It’s great if want the same feel as the real deal. I personally don’t stab my training buddies with a steel rod at full force for training. Use a softer tool if you want to train with higher force.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2020Color: Plain Edge TrainerVerified PurchaseMade a leap and and paid significantly more, ($148) for a Tactical Folder Trainer because of the Benchmade brand name. When received I was disappointed initially by the plastic feel of the handle. The blade itself also gave me pause. While it was metal it was machined with straight edges like a piece of sheet metal that made the edges quite sharp and dangerously impractical to use as a trainer for combatives drills. How hard would it be to round the and take the sharp edge off?
The icing on the cake for me was the cheap, dysfunctional locking mechanism. It worked, kind of, if you opened the trainer very slowly. However, when it was opened quickly, for deployment drills, which is the rational for a "Tactical Folder Trainer" versus a regular fixed blade, it jammed in the open locked position consistently. Like every time consistently. I could see the cheap locking mechanism turned obliquely, making closing it a process of having to extend a wiggle the blade and mechanism until it was freed-up to enable closing.
I'm sending this disappointment back. The "Benchmade" brand has been synonymous with quality in the blade industry. They should stay in the functional market and take their brand name off of this lemon. Save yourself the disappointment.
