Grizzly Creek: Solid Knife for Work, Play, or General Carry

Grizzly Creek: Solid Knife for Work, Play, or General Carry
I've carried a Grizzly Ridge for 4 years and really enjoyed the knife so I got this one as an upgrade. The hook comes in handy for cutting hay bale twine and gutting animals. The wood skin seems like it'll last longer than grizzly ridge's rubber handle (which lasted 4 years). I'm a big fan of benchmades Hunt series and drop point tip. Hopefully I'll have this knife for 20 years to come! (Also posting a lot of top and side pictures because I couldn't find them when I was researching online).

Holding it in my hand, the Diamond Wood scales have a great feel: Smooth and though not super "grippy", I never feel out of control of the knife. The weight is just right for me. It sits just a little heavy in the palm which when opened gives a sense of stability and control, yet the knife remains agile and compliant. Deployment is like silk. So far it has zero lateral blade movement, (although I have only been using it for a week.) The S30V steel is said to be super high quality that holds an edge extremely well. Sure. Alright. I won't be able to confirm that until I have spent a lot more time with this knife. However, I do know that the sturdy blade has ample cutting surface and shipped sharp. Honing it razor fine was no problem and since then, it has been up for every cutting task I have thrown at it. The gut hook also works perfectly, of course, on small to medium gauge rope and cord. This just became my perfect folder for hunting, fishing, camping and my survival gear. The only downside is that it instantly relieves the purchaser of quite a bit of hard-earned money. However, for me it was well worth it. It is clear that a lot of thought and work went into the design and build of this knife. I'd say that this is a case where you DO get what you pay for.

High quality knife, this is my first benchmade. Super sharp edge to it

I purchased this knife a few months before hunting season, and now that I've had a chance to use it I truly love this knife.
First, the knife is beautiful. The dymondwood grips and satin blade finish go perfectly together. The the thumb stud and axis lock allow for quick, smooth one handed opening and closing with solid lock up.
The gut hook is a great feature and is easily deployed. It is held open and closed with detents. They work ok, although there were a few times it tried to close while I was using it. No big deal, probably the way I was holding it.
The blade is awesome! This is my first higher end knife. I was hesitant at first to spend so much on a skinning blade, but after finally using it to completely skin and butcher a deer, including popping hip joints and cutting off shanks, the blade still shaved my arm. I'm used to having to have a sharpening steel out at the skinning rack just to make it through one deer. I'm certainly impressed with the S30V steel.
I'm glad I spent the extra money on a quality knife.

I own several nice folding knives. This one is definitely the most expensive. But the quality shows. The knife is easily opened and closed using the thumb stud. It is ambidextrous. It is easy to open the very first time and it loosens a little more with use. The knife is razor sharp out of the box. The wood handle looks very nice. The belt clip is secure. It has a gut hook, but I am not planning to use the knife for cleaning deer. I have other preferred fixed-blade knives for cleaning deer. The knife I previously carried was the SOG Spec Elite II. It is also a very nice folding knife with easy one hand open/close. The Grizzly Creek is a little shorter and lighter than the Spec Elite II. I feel the size and balance of the Grizzly Creek is perfect. This is my new EDC knife.

You will not regret this purchase. I carried a Crooked River for several years that I absolutely loved. Then it was stolen and I was having a hard time dripping another $300 on a knife. I opted for higher end Buck because even then you’re under the $200 mark. And I hated it! The quality and attention to detail just really lacked from Buck. Benchmade spoiled me! I’ve carried every brand from Cold Steel to Spyderco, to Kershaw and Becker. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING compares to the feel, fit, and quality of nice Benchmade knife. I decided to go for the Grizzly because of the wider handle after handling a Freek at my local REI, same handle. I have large hands and the slightly wider profile just felt right in my palm, even better than the Crooked River. The gut hook is a nice addition when I’m hunting. I haven’t stopped smiling and playing with this thing since it arrived, comparing it constantly to the Buck and it’s just night and day difference. The action is as smooth as butter. The weight is perfect for a quality, sturdy feel without being heavy or bulky. The blade profile is sturdy and ready to work yet it presents itself as a classy, beautiful looking piece. The Axis Lock is a dream. You will not regret buying any quality Benchmade knife. You owe it to yourself!

3.0 out of 5 stars Alte Version
