What a let down!

What a let down!
Was so excited about receiving my first H&K!I decided to go easy at first & used to it cut watermelon... yes... a watermelon!!!Now there's minute scratches all over both sides of the blade... I'm extremely disappointed!!I've had Leatherman (mainly) & a couple other brands for years and nothing like this has ever happened...

Great knife, exactly what I was looking for and at a good price. Always wanted a Benchmade, but at their prices and my habit of turning over knives to TSA I wasn't willing to spring for their prices. Found this and wanted to give it a go. Nice, small profile design. Fits my hand and my pocket well. I like the glass breaker and the clip hook features. Was skeptical about the large hole for one-hand opening, but it works great and I have not noticed any signs of structural weakness in the blade. I would highly recommend it and will probably buy it again, next time TSA gets it...

I’ve had knives that come with a belt clip, and almost always the flare at the end of the clip gets caught on something. Once that happens, the clip is bent out of shape, never to be useful again. That has not happened with this knife!

I’ve snagged it on the side of truck doors a couple times, and each time I fearfully assess the state of this knife I am pleasantly surprised!

A simple, study knife with a great belt clip. Opens easily, locks securely once opened. Have used the tip of the knife to pry small things open, it has yet to break. Great knife, great value!

Certain parts want to give the HK Ally a 4-star rating at least because in many ways...this is a nice knife!

It gives a few cutting options such as choking up on the finger choil and blade spine simultaneously for fine cutting.Or you can just keep your thumb on the spine jimping and in saber grip(like most framelocks) that lock jimping gives texture to where your finger rests.Light and thin enough to clip on your work shirt or snug fitting pants without feeling bulky. The thumbhole is generous and the opening action is smooth (Teflon washers I think). Here's where 3-stars comes in...

*Nothing wrong with the AUS-8 Stainless Steel at all...very good steel for a user knife who wants a balance of sharpening ease and pretty good edge life. The blade is shorter so I have a lack of belly for fine cutting sweeps so my cuts are more repetitive. This results in the steel dulling quicker.Every knife user is different but this doesn't exactly make AUS-8 look good for my needs.

*Despite all the great jimping work I've actually slipped and cut myself several times with this knife.Considering the smooth untextured steel handle and it's very slim body my hand perspires a lot.Nothing to absorb the moisture to counteract it like an overlay strip of Zytel or G-10.Or even some cross-section/Mag-Lite style texturing on the steel scales would be helpful. You can't really use the holes in the handle on your fingertips because your hand tenses up and makes the grip more awkward.

If a bigger version of the HK Ally existed with some improvements on it...I'd definitely revisit this design and buy it.This is one of those knives you can't simply take internet praise/hype on.This one you'd have to handle in person to decide for yourself. You may be disappointed or you may like it as is...not for me tough.

The knife is very sharp. However the coating on it is shiny and does not have a high quality finish, feels like it can be easily worn out. I didn't test the hardness of the steel.

The handle of this knife is definitely stamped from sheet metal. The joint was firm, I had no wiggle room when the blade is opened. However the lock tends to stick and it takes a bit of force with two hands to close it. It is also difficult to open the knife with just finger hole.

Quality knife for the price, but does not live up to the Benchmade association.

Great little knife. High quality and sturdy. I never have a fear that it might close on me. Sharp and solid. The paint is slightly chipping off after 2 months which is not a big deal but I would buy the silver unpainted one if I were you to keep it looking new for longer. Great blade for the price. I would recommend to a friend.

Overall, sleek, low profile (can easily be missed in a pat down), good weight, balance and ergonomic feel in any grip. No play, solid build from the frame lock to the pocket clip. Easily deployed and returned with a single hand. Could've been sharper out of the box, might just be me, but I like my knives razor sharp. Price makes this knife an unbeatable value, even if it didn't have the sweet glass breaker on the back.

i have definitely never owned or seen a better knife at this price point (~$20). i've carried it every day for over a year and it still looks and works great. (note: i don't often put it to extremely hard use. just everyday type tasks.) it's compact, it slips smoothly out of my pocket when i need it, but stays securely clipped in place other times, and it holds a good edge for a decent amount of time. i'm only considering replacing it because i want a full straight edge (non-serrated). if they offered this exact knife in a full straight edge, i'd buy it in an instant. if you're looking for a gift, you can't go wrong here.
