BORN + BASED IN THE USA

SOG STRONG. SOG, short for MACV-SOG, is a U.S. tool and knife company founded in 1986 and named in honor of the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group, a spec ops outfit that valued quick, quiet solutions.

SOG SUPPORT. Our knives and tools are built to last, and we always stand ready to assist you when needed.

U.S. DESIGN + QUALITY CONTROL

SOG STEEL. Your SOG Trident Elite assisted opening folder is crafted in hardcased black titanium nitride-coated AUS-8 stainless steel and hardened using our cryogenic heat treatment; the steel is lowered to -300°F then brought to room temp to relieve blade stress at the atomic level, thereby increasing edge retention and hardness.

SOG STRAIGHT EDGE. The Trident Elite features a partially serrated blade for quick, clean edge cuts and a clip-point design that brings the point closer to the knife’s center line for more balanced piercing-style cuts.

Product Description

Try the Trident Elite once and you’ll never carry that other brand’s blade again. That’s our challenge to you. Give it a push on either Thumbstud and the 3.7” blade jumps from the handle as if coiled and ready to strike. That’s thanks to SOG Assisted Technology (S.A.T.), a system of opposing high-tension coils that propel the blade open instantly once you give it a flick.

Best pocket knife I've owned.
Love this knife to death! Been using Buck knives and other brands forever. Last year I tried a SOG Trident and loved it. Ended up losing it but bought this to replace it. Its a world of different from the original Trident. The casing nice as the rubber helps when your hands are wet. Only tried the glass breaker once (first time ever for me and scared the crap out of me), and worked well. The blade is sharp so the cord cutter worked REALLY well. Just make sure the blade lock is on before using the cord cutter (I made that mistake once already and felt like a complete idiot. Won't EVER make that mistake again). The blade comes razor sharp and has thus far held its edge well. If you haven't noticed, the blade itself has a curve to it. This helps when cutting rope as the slight bend keeps the rope on the blade during sawing motions. The SOG Assist is crazy strong. Knives I've using before (especially with Gerber) required a little wrist flick to make the blade come out really fast. The assist on this knife is so strong that the blade practically forces its way our after a small touch to the thumb nub. When I first got it, I was being especially careful with it as to not mar any of its surfaces. Not expecting such a strong assist, I tried to carefully open the blade with 2 hands. Holding the handle in my right hand and slowly pulled the blade with my left (spine, or dull side of the blade towards the palm of my left hand) the blade shot open with so much force that the blade slipped through my thumb and index finger and open straight past my left hand, slicing the palm of my left hand right open. Crazy thing, the only edge of the blade that touched me was the tip and the blunt spine. This just goes to show how sharp the blade tip is and how strong the SOG assist is.This knife is solid and IMHO worth every penny.

I received the excellent SOG Trident Elite today. What an excellent piece of hardware! After 30 seconds on a leather razor strop the factory sharpened blade was shaving hair smoothly. A drop of oil in several places had the moving parts of the knife functioning smoothly also. As others have stated, the blade does jump out of the handle with more power than I expected. (The Trident Elite video does not do it justice.) And the blade locks open with no looseness in any direction. The handle is ergonomically perfect for my hands. The blade safety lock functions very tightly and much better than most blade locks. The pocket clip works very well for deep carry with none of the handle visible. Overall, I can find nothing negative to report except that, 5 stars are not enough for me to give the Trident Elite a proper, well-deserved rating.

This is a good knife for every day carry. It feels solid in the hand and the parts feel robust. The windshield hammer and the seatbelt cutter are nice as well. The only thing I would have liked is a rubberized tip on the pocket clip so that it doesn't scratch stuff up. Here are the other things I noticed: 1. Opening of the blade required quite a bit of force, but once that force is applied, the assisted opening makes sure that the blade fully deploys and locks every time. 2. Closing the blade requires putting and maintaining pressure on an unlock button and then folding the blade it. This will take two hands because the deployment assist gives resistance. Also, the unlock button is a bit loose. It doesn't affect the operation of the knife, but when the knife is closed, it can be moved along its track. 3. The seatbelt cutter uses the main blade, which will make it easy to sharpen. When the knife is closed, the seatbelt indent exposes a small section of the blade. There is a safety that prevents opening the knife, which I assume is to ensure that the blade does not accidentally open while cutting a seatbelt.

Overall this is an excellent knife. I have had this knife about three months. It has an assisted open mechanism which springs to life at the touch of a stud and has a strong lock-up. The metal used is AUS8 which will stay working sharp for a very long time. It is not a "razor" sharp knife because AUS 8 doesn't like to hold a super fine edge; what it does do is cut for a very long time without needing sharpening. If you want a razor edge they sell a VG 10 version for a lot more, but more exotic super metals tend to chip and I prefer an edge that is less sharp and less brittle. I was not impressed with the edge when it arrived and put a 20 degree edge on it about four days later. The TF101 gets used for paper, wood, and digging in the dirt and has stayed sharp enough that I haven't needed to re-dress the edge since first re-sharpening. The grip is light and easy to grab even with wet hands. Now the flaws that caused it to get four stars:

1. The lock-up is strong, but there don't seem to be any bearings to keep the action smooth. When closing the knife the action seems gritty and stiff. A couple of bronze shims would have smoothed things up considerably.
2. Next, the tension release has a sliding stud which is small, stiff and sharp. There is no reason why they couldn't have made it wider and more finger friendly, as it physically hurts to pull back. I have added oil and graphite to the action in order to try and smooth it out but it is still painful to use, hence the knife is hard to close.
3. My last complaint is the safety. Knives don't need safeties, but when they do have them, they need to make sense. I have keep looking to see which way to slide it, and the safety slides around in my pocket, either opening or closing of its own volition as it moves during the day. I keep this knife nominally for self defense and need a safety which stays in one place. If the bad day ever comes when I actually need to deploy the thing, I can get it open.

Gut durchdacht, gut umgesetzt. Stabil gefertigt.
