The same great, useful, powerful blade shape with fierce design offer users consistency and dependability. The low profile pocketclip rests on the frame making it easy to pull from the pocket. High-Performance SteelSandvik 14C28N steel is a high-performance steel with increased nitrogen in the formula for excellent corrosion resistance and hardness. The overall highest performing knife steel in the world that still maintains the productivity benefit of being fine-blankable, 14C28N steel is ideal for knife applications which place high demands on edge sharpness, edge stability and corrosion resistance. |
Attractive Blade CoatingCerakote coating is a ceramic based finish coat formula that enhances corrosion and wear resistance. Cerakote enables a long lasting and durable blade coat for everyday use. |
Fast DeploymentUsing a torsion bar to move the blade out of the handle, Kershaw’s revolutionary SpeedSafe Assisted Opening system enables smooth, secure, fast one-handed blade deployment. Apply manual pressure to the flipper or thumb stud with a light push or pull back to overcome resistance of the torsion bar, and the blade opens smoothly and locks into place for confident handling without premature closure. |
Secure Locking SystemWith two steel plates, or liners, on the inside of each handle scale, the liner locking system safely secures the blade open and prevents unwanted blade closure. The lockbar butts up against the blade’s backend to prevent closure, and angles or is bent towards the blade tang creating a bias locked position. Apply manual force to move the lockbar to the side and fold the blade back into the handle. |

One-Handed FlipperKnives with SpeedSafe open have two options for one-handed blade deployment. To activate the smooth, instant open, user can push a thumbstud or press a flipper. The flipper on SpeedSafe assisted knives is easy to operate by both left- and right-handed users. And, once blade swings open and locks into place, flipper either disappears for aesthetics or remains visible for added finger protection. |
Durable HandleAluminum, anodized for color, hardness and additional protection, is very durable, stain and scratch resistant for strong knife handles. Anodizing changes the aluminum’s surface so a porous coating can be applied that will accept a colored dye. Anodized aluminum gives the knife bright, eye-catching, unique colors and provides a nice, hefty, solid feel to the knife without making the knife heavy. Trac-Tec Inserts are rough-surfaced inserts that provide additional friction for a non-slip grip on a Kershaw knife’s handle scales. With extreme gripping capabilities, Trac-Tec inserts feel almost spongy when pressed with a fingertip. The inserts are comfortable and secure in the hand, and the texture is soft enough that it will not scratch or irritate the users’ hands. |
Convenient PocketclipKershaw designs pocketclips to fit specific knives according to their weight, intended end use, size, style and hardware. Some knives have multiple carry options, others are more streamlined. The reversible pocketclip allows user to choose to carry knife tip-up or tip-down or to choose on which side knife carries. The user may select either a preferred tip position or a preferred carry side. |
Product Description
Try out Kershaw’s premier value in re-curved blades built for multitasking with excellent slicing and piercing capabilities. While both fierce and elegant, the mild S-shaped pattern of the Blur blade serves not merely for looks alone. The slight curvature lengthens the edge of the blade and places it at a wider array of angles while performing any cutting motion. Optimize the angle of attack as the S-curve moves more of the blade weight toward the tip of the blade, simultaneously encouraging material to settle into the mid-blade concave curvature. If that were not enough, the featured serration allows it to cut cleanly without shredding and cut fibrous material like rope, webbing and cords. Enhance the power and efficiency of cutting freeing hang rope or game as the concave edge renders the bulk of the material, less likely to pull away from the extended and angular-optimized cutting motion. Whether for slicing, skinning, or defense, the Black Serrated Blur is the perfect fit.

As a military member, I rely on my knife daily and have used it for almost every possible purpose. This Kershaw is better than all of the Gerbers I have had and every bit as good as the Benchmades that go for well over $200.
1. The blade is solid and sharp and holds its edge very well. Receives sharpening easily as well
2. The open assist is awesome. It is super smooth and tight.
3. The grip/handle texture is my favorite out there.
4. The knife is made in the USA.
Just buy it. The only reason this is my third one is because I forgot my first one in my pocket at the airport and had to surrender it, and I lost my second one overseas.
After a lot of reading and comparing of knives, I decided to try the Kershaw Blur partially serrated folding knife. Here are features I like and reasons this knife has proven to be the right choice for me. (1) The Kershaw brand has a well-earned solid reputation. (2) The knife appears well made and matches the listed specs. (3) The blade is sharp!
(4) The knife is a good weight. I found some knives too heavy in my pocket or on my waistband or belt. (5) The handle portion of the knife is "roughed up" or textured so that I can get and keep a good grip on the knife, lessening the risk of a sharp knife slipping through wet hands.
(6) The knife is pretty easy for me to open, but not quite as easy as I would like. I can't get my fingers to master the one-handed speed open. I have to use both hands to hold the knife while pulling the blade out. That said, yes it takes both my hands, but I can readily/easily pull the blade out without cutting myself.
(7) For me, here is the knife's selling point: my ability to close the knife easily. I have found lots of knives relatively easy to open, but nearly impossible to close because they require strong thumbs. This Kershaw knife does require me to move a bar like thing with my thumb as I push on the back of the blade. I have found this bar easy to move as I simultaneously push on the blade. The blade releases from its locked position and then I can finish closing the knife. I can close the blade without any danger of cutting myself.
A general note. I have to use both hands to open the knife and I often use both hands to close it. Having to use both hands is probably a "deal breaker" for many pocket knife owners. I suspect, however, most people who have more fully functional hands and/or people who are not as klutzy as I, can easily open and close this knife single handedly.
Kershaw makes quality. Spend a little more than the cheap Chinese knock offs and have a blade you will use often for years to come.
+ Comes razor sharp and locks up solidly
+ Confidence-inspiring grippy handle material
+ Versatile blade shape (lots of belly, useful serrations)
CONS:
- Grippy handle material and robust pocket clip can chew up your pants
- Decidedly NOT a discreet, low-profile knife
VERDICT: A bit too big for an on-person daily carry blade, but still extremely useful. Recommended.
Picking up the Kershaw Blur, the first thing I notice is the outstanding grip afforded by the Trac-Tec (Kershaw marketing-speak for hard textured rubber) handle inserts. This knife is not going to slip out of your hand, no matter what the conditions. The assisted-opening mechanism is smooth as glass, snapping the blade open swiftly with a satisfying "thwack!" as I nudge the thumbstud. The blade locks up solidly, with zero wiggle or movement in any direction, which in my experience is the expected norm for all Kershaw folding knives.
So far, I've used my Blur to cut up chicken, open boxes, and remove an errant thread from my jeans, tasks it accomplished with ease. The edge has a versatile shape with a nice belly and comes absolutely hair-popping sharp out of the box. However, I cannot speak to blade's edge retention characteristics, as I've only owned the knife for three days. It's also worth noting that the stout blade design (both thick and broad from edge to spine) precludes the knife's use in finer, more detailed applications (cutting fruit and peeling vegetables, for instance). This has more to do with the intended purpose of the knife, not a design flaw in any way, but I still found myself reaching for my SOG Flash I or Kershaw Skyline for these tasks.
The combination of an especially tight pocket clip and the aforementioned grippy handle inserts have the tendency of ripping up pants pockets. It retains extremely well when clipped to the pocket, but after just three days of carry, my right front pants pocket seam is starting to disintegrate. Your mileage may vary (perhaps you have better pants than I), but my Blur is destined to live in my backpack as a secondary knife for this and another reason: lack of people-friendliness.
The long, blackened, partially-serrated blade on the Kershaw Blur will not win any popularity contests with non-knife people (NKP). As a university student, I get nervous stares whenever I pull out my daily carry knife (either a SOG Flash I or Kershaw Skyline) to open a package. Not ten seconds later though, one of the same staring NKP will sheepishly ask to borrow my knife to open their own package. No matter how many times I repeat my mantra (knives are tools, not weapons) and how much discretion I employ when using my knife, their collective fear of sharp objects persists. Their fear is illogical in my eyes, but it's not my intent to scare people (and I really don't want them calling the campus police on me), so the Blur will live out of sight. However, because I believe in always having a spare, the Blur will stay in my backpack.
