Description:
The Spyderco Chaparral 4 with Blue Anodized Stepped Titanium! Never content to let things rest, Spyderco wanted to kick the Chaparral folder up another notch. This time the original stepped titanium handle was used, but was given blue anodized highlights to show off its complex machined pattern. We think this really dressed up an already classy design. The rest of the knife remains untouched, keeping its flat ground CTS-XHP blade, wire clip and back lock. Based on the extremely popular Sage model, the Chaparral comes in a little bit smaller and doesn't occupy as much real estate in your pocket. This knife is completely ambidextrous, as the hole opener is also lefty friendly and the wire clip can easily be changed to the opposite side. About this project: We are often asked why the stepped Chaparral has a higher price tag than the standard titanium model. While the materials cost may not have changed, the machining process used to create such a complex pattern in the handle is very time consuming. Titanium is also notoriously hard on equipment, requiring bits to be replaced frequently during the manufacturing process. If you're not sold on the handle pattern, you may want to check out the more reasonably priced Chaparral 2 instead. About CTS-XHP: An alloy steel made by Carpenter, CTS-XHP was developed as a corrosion resistant D2 alternative. Our research shows users estimating edge retention slightly ahead of S30V, and toughness comparable to D2. This makes CTS-XHP a premium steel, which should hold a great edge and be reasonably corrosion resistant.
